Dave and Katie welcome you to our Hartington cottage.
Here we try and provide some information to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Firstly – if you have any problems during your stay, and need to get hold of us – you can email thecottagehartington@gmail.com or call us 07950232411 (Dave) or 07917756458 (Katie).
The Cottage, Market Place (on the corner with Hall Bank), Hartington, Derbyshire, SK17 0AL.
Parking – There is on street parking outside the cottage. Before you start your journey, please bear in mind there is very little phone/ data signal in the village, and you need to be connected to the WIFI. We are on the corner of Hall Bank & Market Place, next door to AJ & S Peach newsagents & general store. Familiarise yourself with the outside of the cottage, and its location on the map. Friends have drive in to the village and then had to drive back up to the A515 to get a data signal & read the instructions we had given them! Can you please not park directly in front of the shop next door on Hall Bank - they have deliveries through the day, and parking directly outside where they need to drop off is an inconvenience.
Arrival/ Departure – We ask that guests arrive no earlier than 4PM, and leave by 10AM on the day of departure. If there are exceptional circumstances, contact us as we may be able to offer some flexibility.
Keys – We have a key safe on the right hand side of the doorway. We will contact you the week of your arrival and give you an updated code for the key safe. Once you are inside the cottage, there will be a 2nd set of keys on the dining room table in the fruit bowl. Please return both sets of keys to their original locations at the end of your stay.
WiFi – We have provided free unlimited fibre optic WiFi for our guests use. The network is called EE-Hub-7suG, and the password is node-OWE-tuned. This information is on the back of the router, next to the living room speaker. Please return it once you are logged on for future guests.
Bed Linen/ Towels – We provide bed linen and towels for all guests. On departure, please strip all beds and leave towels and used bed linen at the end of each bed.
Children - Our children love coming to Hartington, and if you are bringing children we want them to be safe. Please let us know in advance if you require any of the following: child’s toilet seat, footstool, potty, high chair, travel cot. There is also a small selection of children’s cups, plates and cutlery.
Smoking - The cottage is a non smoking family home. There is a patio at the rear of the cottage for your use if you are a smoker. Please ensure all waste from smoking is tidied up when you leave the cottage.
Rear Patio - There is a rear patio with table and chairs and BBQ with utensils. If you have used the BBQ - please leave it in a reasonable condition for future guests. The is a boot rack for wellies and walking boots, and sufficient space to store your bikes. You need to go through the patio gate, and through the passageway between the cottage & newsagents to unbolt the external door and then wheel your bikes through. Please don’t bring muddy bikes through the house.
Books/ Games/ Toys - We have provided a small number of books, games, children's toys and an android tablet for your use. The tablet is stored with the books & games in the snug. Please return it here after using it. These are family possessions so please treat them with respect.
Music - We have provided 3 Sonos WiFi speakers (1 in the kitchen, 1 in the living room, and a roam in the snug that can be taken outside). You can connect to them by downloading an app to your own phone/ tablet, or using the android tablet that we provide at the cottage. There is a guide to using the Sonos speakers here. The Sonos speakers are linked to a dedicated Spotify account, so you should be able to listen to anything that interests you!
Smart TVs - We have provided a smart tv with dedicated Netflix/ Amazon prime account in the living room & snug. There is an intuitive troubleshooting routine on the TVs if you are having problems connecting to the WiFi.
Living room lamps - We have 2 lamps in the living room which are remotely controlled as the sockets aren't easily accessible. The controller is small, white and has 3 buttons to turn each light on/ off. Please leave the remote control on top of the fireplace for the next guests.
Central heating - There is a thermostat in the living room. If you want to adjust the heating, use the thermostat. Please return the thermostat to 18 upon your departure. There are controls on the Rayburn that we ask you to please not touch, If you need to adjust the programme to contant, there are controls in the cupboard in the master bedroom, Please get in touch and we will talk through what to do here. Although there is underfloor heating in the kitchen, we recommend slippers in the winter months as the limestone and wood floors can be cool under foot.
Recycling/ Waste - Our waste is collected every Tuesday morning, and alternates according to this schedule. The black bin is for general waste, green is garden waste, and blue is recycling. There is specific guidance on this here. Please understand that no-one will arrive to empty bins, and the system relies on all guests putting the necessary bins out during their stay. If you have an excess of cans or glass bottles (honestly, we don’t have a problem!!) - there are recyling sites in Buxton and Ashbourne.
Kitchen Appliances - The cottage has a dishwasher, and washing machine/ dryer, and we provide supplies of tablets. In the Kitchen there is a fridge freezer, toaster, kettle, gas hob, touch screen Rangemaster fan oven, Rayburn, wine cooler & microwave. The oven confused us at first - you have to turn it on, select the programme e.g Fan Assisted, the temperature, duration, and the time you want it to start (which must be in the future!). There is a cancel button to turn it off.
In the kitchen drawer to the right of the sink, there is a folder with all the relevant manuals. We also provide spare bulbs, bateries, fuses etc.
Log Burner - There is a log burner in the living room. We provide an initial supply of wood, firelighters, matches, a glove and utensils. Shops in the village sell kindling & firewood if you need more than we initially supply. Please do not help yourself to the wood that is seasoning in the courtyard. We have to travel to keep the supples replinished, so if our cleaners feedback that the wood in boxes has been used, we will have to invoice you for this.
Breakages - Things get broken; we would much rather know about any damage so that we can get replacements before the next guests arrive - so just let us know. If our cleaners report unreasonable damage to the Cottage, there is an expectation that guests cover the full costs.
Things to do, places to eat and drink - Please see our “things to do” page.
Feedback - We really appreciate your feedback. Please let us know what you enjoyed, and what we could do to make a future stay more enjoyable.
Enjoyed your stay? Would you like to stay in our cottage again? - Many of our guests find us through Airbnb. If you would like to stay with us again why not contact us directly at thecottagehartington@gmail.com for reduced prices, and special offers on advanced bookings.
We also have 2 cottages in Whitby, North Yorkshire that we let out. You can visit www.fishermanscottagewhitby.co.uk to check them out. We give a discount code for repeat bookings at either cottage.
